Visa Extensions and Renewals

When you come to Canada as a visitor and it is time for you to leave, you are able to apply for an extension and extend your stay in Canada. This document is called a Visitor Record . A visitor record is not a visa but it does allow you to stay longer in Canada as a :

• Visitor

• Worker( if you are authorized to work without a work permit)

• Student ( if you are authorized to study without a study permit)

It has a new date that you need to leave Canada by. You need to apply for this document 30 days BEFORE your status expires. If you leave Canada before a decision is made on the visitor record, you may not be allowed to re-enter Canada.

This document is also issued for workers or students who want to change their status to a visitor.

Restoration:

In cases where your visa expired , you can apply to restore your status within 90 days of the expiration. This is a new application with separate fees that need to be paid in order to be processed. If you are a student you are NOT allowed to continue studying while you restore your status. If you are a worker applying to restore your work permit, you are NOT allowed to work while you wait for a decision. You are required to leave Canada if your application is refused.
