Visitor Visa ( TRV)

Foreign nationals who would like to visit Canada need to apply for a temporary resident visa ( TRV) or a visitor's visa. A visitor's visa is a document that IRCC stick on your passport that shows that you met the requirements to come visit Canada. A visitor's visa is either issued for multiple entries or a single entry; meaning you can come to Canada for the duration of the validity of your passport or a maximum of 10 years whichever comes first ( multiple entry) or a one time visit ( single entry) . You are allowed to visit and stay in Canada for a maximum of 6 months per entry unless the CBSA officer stamps your passport with a different exit date, they may also give you what's called a Visitor Record which will show the date you need to leave by. If the CBSA officer does not stamp your passport you are allowed to stay for up to 6 months , the expiration date of your biometrics or the expiration of your passport whichever comes first.

Am I eligible to apply for a TRV ?

You must meet the basic requirements to apply for a visitor's visa. These requirements are :

  • Have a valid travel document

  • be in good health

  • have no criminal or immigration related convictions

  • convince the officer that you have ties to your home country

  • convince the officer that you will leave at the end of your stay

  • have enough money for your stay

  • You may require additional documents such as an invitation letter or medical exam

  • Always check your country specific checklist to make sure you have all the documents you need.

A temporary resident visa is also required if u plan on studying or working in Canada.

Business Visitors:

Business visitors are people who come to Canada for a few days or weeks for business purposes ; attend a meeting or an event and they can stay for up to 6 months.

Am I eligible?

To qualify, you need to :

  • Plan on staying for 6 months or less

  • Not enter the labor market ( you cannot work)

  • have your main source of income and place of business outside of Canada

  • have documents that support your application

  • meet the basic requirements for a visitor's visa

You need to apply for a work permit if you plan on staying for more than 6 months. While you are in Canada as a business visitor you can do the following activities while you visit :

  • buy Canadian goods or services for a foreign business or government

  • take orders for goods or services

  • go to meetings, conferences, conventions or trade fairs

  • give after-sales service as part of a warranty or sales agreement

  • be trained by a Canadian parent company that you work for outside Canada

  • train employees of a Canadian branch of a foreign company

  • be trained by a Canadian company that has sold you equipment or services

Super Visa :

Parents and grandparents can visit their Canadian or permanent resident child or grandchild for up to 5 years at a time. It provides multiple entries for up to 10 years . This visa is for parents or grandparents that would like to visit for more than 6 months at a time.

Am I eligible for a super visa ?

In order to be eligible you must have a host who is :

  • your child or grandchild

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident

  • At least 18 years old and lives in Canada

  • Meets or exceeds the minimum necessary income

  • Signs a letter inviting you to come Canada

    You must also :

  • Be outside of Canada

  • be allowed to enter Canada ( admissible )

  • Take an immigration medical exam

  • Have sufficient ties to your home country ( you are a visitor and need to leave at the end of your stay)

  • The overall economic state of your home country will also be taken into consideration.

You must also provide valid health insurance from either a Canadian insurance company or an insurance company outside Canada with certain conditions. The health insurance policy has to meet the following criteria:

  • Valid for 1 year from the date of entry

  • be paid for in full or installments with a deposit

  • Cover health care , hospitalization and repatriation

  • provide a minimum coverage of $,100,000

Electronic Travel Authorization ( ETA):

This document allows you to fly to, or transit through, a Canadian airport. In order to qualify for an ETA you need to be from visa-exempt countries , you need a valid passport , a valid email address, and a method of payment.
